#god this scene always sticks out in my brain as one of the most important derek hale moments of s1 #because in this tiny moment we get so much insight into derek #up until this point everyone thinks he’s evil or rude or a jerk or whatever #or at the very least cranky all the time #but god no derek didn’t fucking want any of it #deep down he’s a scared boy who lost his entire family and recently his sister #and everyone in the town thinks /he/ murdered her #meanwhile he’s trying to find her actual killer and not get himself hunted down #and juggling scott’s problems #AND HE’S SCARED #HE PUTS ON THE BRAVEST FACE BECAUSE HE HAS SO MUCH HE TRIES TO HANDLE BUT FUCK #HE GETS SCARED TOO #I mean look at his terrified face in that first gif and doesn’t it just break your heart #no one thinks of derek like this#so vulnerable and nervous #but he has so much that he hides beneath a frown#and it was so nice to see a moment of pure instinct #something he couldn’t cover up #and I still see derek like this more than anything #a scared boy who lost his family #who was forced to grow up too fast
